by Heat Recruitment
Heat Recruitment FC took part in the CII Football 5 a-side last week and gave a great account of themselves – up against some well organised teams. The evening started with many of the players dusting off their football boots and numerous (obligatory) hamstrings stretches.
Confidence was high amongst the team, with regular footballers Ed Holdaway, Joe Cowell and James Gwyther supported ably by Joe Connolly, Ross Bennett, Joe DT, Glen Pearce and Dave Bell. The evening started with two games which can only be described as “goal-fests”.
There were some great performances throughout the tournament with all outfield players chipping in to score, and Glen “Neville Southall” Pearce diving all over the place at the other end of the pitch to keep the opposition out.
Finishing 2nd in the group meant a tough game against Claims Consortium in the Quarter Finals. Heat produced their best performance of the competition to squeeze home 5-3. As the sun set on a fantastic evening, we hit the business end of the competition.
Heat fielded their best team against a slick Jelf outfit. Racing to an early 1-0 advantage, Heat missed a couple of chances to double their lead only for Jelf to snatch a draw with just seconds left on the clock. (Unbelievable Jelf!)
It came down to the dreaded penalties, and unfortunately for Heat, the Jelf players kept their cool. Some well-placed penalties gave them the victory in a nail-biting encounter.
Thanks to all the Teams that took part and to the CII for organising. It was a fantastic event played in great (if competitive) spirit. The Heat Recruitment dream team will return next year for another attempt at lifting a trophy – one that has so far proved elusive!
