The best areas in the UK to start your Paraplanner role
by Heat Recruitment
The UK financial services industry is thriving and the growth of Paraplanner roles is clear to see. As Financial Advisers advance their careers and grow relationships with their clients, Paraplanners are proving an integral support system to these advisers. With Brexit proceedings proving a turbulent roller coaster, the importance of strong consolidated financial advice is proving essential and shows no sign of waning.
When you are looking to start your career in Paraplanning, there are an abundance of major cities experiencing rapid growth in their finance sectors. With the role of Paraplanners set to take on greater importance in the next few years, there has never been a better time to take those first steps… but where?
London – Networking opportunities
London is naturally a market disrupter in most sectors, being the business capital of the UK. It’s no different for Paraplanner roles. Not only are salaries high and opportunities abundant, but the majority of major financial planning firms hold their head offices here too. The benefits you can gain outside of working hours are good too.
You only have to click onto Eventbrite for a quick scroll through the banking and finance events on offer. From short courses to networking, there is always something going on. You can also have easy access to events like the London Purely Paraplanning Conference. Having an abundance of opportunities on your doorstep will allow you to fully establish yourself within the London Paraplanning community and regularly meet with contacts you do make. It’s not always what you know, but sometimes who you know.
Cardiff – Salaries
Whilst salaries are high in London, the cost of living leaves little to be desired. The rising rate of wages in Cardiff however are nothing to sniff at. Paraplanners in the Cardiff area typically earn between £25,000 and £40,000, with some high-end firms offering even more.
Now factor in the cost of living in Cardiff compared to London. Rent is an average of 59.8 per cent cheaper and consumer prices are 25.44 per cent cheaper too – it’s really a no-brainer. You could have a better quality of life, save more money and achieve that ultimate goal of a good work-life balance. The removal of the travel tolls also creates a commute opportunity if you’re not too keen on making the move across the Severn Bridge permanently.
Nottingham – A decent perks package
If there is one trend we are seeing here at Heat Recruitment, it’s the growing level of perks on offer in firms based in Nottingham. Not only are we placing a near majority of our Paraplanning candidates here – indicating strong growth levels – but we are seeing a clear growth in the range of benefits available to candidates. Firms are supporting their Paraplanning teams by offering flexible working opportunities, private healthcare and generous pension schemes. On top of a meaty salary, being surrounded by beautiful countryside, architecture and historical caves makes Nottingham easy on the eye, as well as a lovely place to live.
Leicester – Increasing job opportunities
The abundant growth in the finance sector in Leicestershire area is evident in terms of the vast majority of hires we are placing in the area. Investment into manufacturing and construction is increasing the demand on the financial services sector, and as a result providing more career opportunities in the area. New companies are also opening up, so if you want to start with a grassroots business, the opportunity is there.
Bristol – The full package
We would be hypocrites if we didn’t highlight the abundant benefits that Bristol poses as a place to kick-start your career. Not only are there a huge range of paraplanning opportunities – including great universities and colleges to progress your finance qualifications – but Bristol is also a truly great place to live. Havingbeen voted as the best place to live in the UK outside of London for young professionals under 26, Bristol also boasts a buzzing nightlife, picturesque parks and impeccable transport links. What’s not to love?
